<sub>Yesterday my car was totaled (1996 Ford Taurus). I was in an accident. I almost died due to a very stupid mistake.

I had a bad day. I'm working freelance right now for spare money till I get a job offer. I was working all morning, and at 2 pm I needed to drive out way south to bring Jason his lunch. This was my fault to begin with, we woke up late and to spare us the time of dealing with me packing him a lunch we just rushed. It sucked, because the next day he was leaving for Scotland... He's gone now for a week. Well, I rushed home and got here at about 4 pm, and I had previously promised his sister I would make a banner for her stand for Vegan Outreach at the 2008 Progressive Agenda... So I got to work. Jason had cat scratch fever... and he was feeling very very ill. (God damn Krr sometimes.) He asked me to pick him up early, like 5 o'clock instead of 5:30 (It takes 45 minutes or more to drive there during rush hour). I was freaking out, and finished the banner at 5:56. I packed up, rushed out, and wanted to save him from his head throbey torment. His flight would be leaving very early, so in order to spend time with him before we needed to sleep time was crucial.

I got out there, got him around 6:30 and drove back. I needed him to direct me to the building his sister was in but the poor thing was just passing out, and felt like he was going to vomit. So, I dropped him off at the house, laid him to rest with some water and set out to hopefully quickly leave the banner with his sister so I could return and have a nice night with him before he left.

Granted, no one in the union building knew how to tell me where to go, and after 45 minutes of getting lost in massive one way parking lots, Gina, a mutual friend walked out to meet me at some far away stop to direct me where to go. I dropped off the banner, and picked up some vegan fliers and stickers for my house. Yay.

There was a flier there for the Vertical Diner, it's a vegan place that serves food Jason and I both really like. I got the great idea that since Jason was too ill to go out on the Friday night before he left I'd order some food for pick up and we could eat and perhaps watch some Predator with good 'ol Arnie in it for fun times.

I ordered, and was driving back. I stopped at a red light and was thinking "How do I get to the vertical from here.." and was looking slightly to the left. The left hand lights turned green and I edged into the intersection. It was still red for me. A car going 45 miles per hour honked, screeched, and dodged me. I freaked out. I was stopped in the middle of a busy intersection in a dark car on a busy road and I didn't know what to do. I panicked. Majorly. All I can remember thinking is wanted to escape. So I did the first thing that came to my mind. I fled. I tried to drive forward to get out of the intersection.

Boom. A 1997 Camry T-boned me at probably 50 MPH. My car slid into the lanes of the road I was attempting to get into. Sideways. Both cars are totaled. Compete accident. I went into shock, probably scared the hell out of the 5 girls in the car. I kept freaking out and trying to make sure they were okay. I was all hysterical. I never want to hurt anyone.. I didn't mean for this to happen. Lucky, their air bags deployed and no one was seriously injured. They took one girl as a precautionary to the hospital because of her leg hurting. It was her fucking birthday. I can't believe what happened. I have never caused an accident to date, I mean... I think I'm normally a very safe driver and look what I did. I didn't think... I panicked, and look what happened. I didn't think anythign was wrong with me, but now I have a huge bruise over my right side, and whiplash. My neck is aching like fuck.

I can't sleep. I keep having nightmares of it. I hope they're all okay... I hope they don't hate me... I didn't mean for this to happen. I wish I could just turn back time and fix it...

My insurance person was really nice and consoling. My mom has called me the most I've ever seen her do. Like once an hour. This was an 'accident' but I feel so incredibly guilty. I feel like I killed someone. I ruined a girls birthday. I destroyed not only my own car, but someone else's. Someone who didn't do anything wrong. I could have died. I could have killed someone. I'm 'so' grateful that in reality no one is seriously hurt to my knowledge. I tried to find out from the police what hospital the girl was in so I could check on her... But they couldn't release her information. So I need to ask my claims adjuster... Fuck...

I just don't know what to do now. I just feel so bad... and everything hurts.. and I want to make it better. I want to just put a big band aid over all this and fix it but I can't. The car issue is a pain in the ass.. but if there is a god please make sure that girl is okay. Please make sure everyone is okay..

I didn't intend for this to happen. I cried till my eyes were swollen shut.

Please, everyone, drive safe. Please... You don't realize you're inside of a tin can till it's too late. Don't let your mind wander. Don't react without thinking it out. Be CAREFUL. People die in accident 'all' the time. I was lucky, I was cited the lowest possible citation. "Running a red light" a petty 85 dollar fine. I could have taken someones life. I could have not ended up at home last night. I've never seen Jason cry like that... It's just terrible.

Drive responsibly, please.. You're driving a giant weapon.
